the paintings of simon blackwood

“The paintings are evocations of light inspired by the relationship of the lover with the beautiful.”

In the 1960s Simon Blackwood worked alongside and studied under some of the leading “conceptualists” and “avante garde” artists of the time, yet emerged, resolute and intent on pursuing a traditional means toward artistic expression.

In the early 1980’s Mr Grenville Collins, who was at that time Simon’s agent, coined the epithet “Romantic Luminism” to describe his art.

This collection of images spans a period of 30 years work by the artist in an attempt to reflect on a consistent approach to painting in a period when art has undergone a dramatic reinvention.
