How does one describe the work of Simon Blackwood?
It is easy to eulogise – symphonies in colour; and colours so rich, so delicious, that, when standing in front of a Blackwood painting one has the strange sensation of being drawn into its depths, and through it, enveloped in the scene by the power of paint. If this description appears to go somewhat over the top, I do not apologise for it.
There is no doubt that Blackwood has a rare ability to paint pictures of considerable power. He is not an artist who courts the establishment – in fact one could say that he ignores it. His pictures speak for themselves. They are bought by lovers of art across the world because of their beauty, to hang on walls to be enjoyed and admired.
